Well having used both sputnik and supertrap i find supertrap is far better due to not having to grab the birds at there return! Sputnik's are usefull but valuable seconds could be lost chasing the bird around the loft! Oldbirds(widowhood or natural) open door is preferable as birds just enter loft from the sky straight into there box!! Just my opinion as there was nowt else on the forum!!
Also get to blackpool in january pick-up super trap's for £25 bargins galore ;D

I'm not sure if it is called something different where I am from, but I have never heard of a supertrap. Would you mind describing it?
Thanks, Bryan

just thought i would comment on the diferent traps , when i started i couldnt afford ready made traps so i bought some bob wires and made a hole in the front of my loft and also made a platform for the birds to land on this worked for me for the first year until i could afford my first trap which was a sputnick , so now having used the same trap for years i would recomend them .

I prefer to trap them through open doors, plenty of trappers thrown at the door when a bird arrives, nothing quicker in my eyes.

do u not find it hard having to shut the doors and maybe chase the bird around the loft ?while using a trap u can jus pick the bird out of the cage ?

I have used stall traps and sputniks in the past and found by the time the bird has dropped onto the trap then decided to go into it I could have already timed in through an open door, the bird goes straight in the door lands on its box and you just pick it up and time it in. Just my opinion.

yea i can see the point u r making, but when called the birds should drop at the tin and enter the loft because they know they are going to get a tasty feed and drink cheers rockinrick (misses says i am stubborn ) lol

Ya cant bet open doors,i have open doors on all my lofts, but have a corridor, in the young bird loft,& air doors on the hen loft, but the widow loft has open doors.Mine trap well this way have no need to chase around the loft as thay go straight to there box, or perches. If i wonted to change to super traps i dont think me birds would like it,as thay dont no what one is,never have.Speckled

i use open door and have no trouble picking my birds up after a race as they know i'll have a tasty tip bit for them and like hulahoop said i think you loss time waiting for the bird to make up its mine if its going to go in the trap

i find stall traps wor kwell but after you clock the same birds a few times they start to get a bit hard to go in,,i have used open door for the last couple of seasons and find this suits me best, birds go straight to there perch and are picked up from it,,in a season ortwo i will not have to do it as i am going for electronic timer.there the go,only time you have to handle your birds is on basketing night

I used Stall traps fpr years and they are good ,but some of the birds do get a bit trap shy if they had a couple bad removal days. But, now we have the new Electronice closk with chips and pads. There great for race day and also for inventory from training.
